Lecture Screening Night

Every Friday night between Maghrib and Isha, an Islamic lecture is screened at Kilbirnie Masjid (7-11 Queens Drive, Kilbirnie). Snacks and refreshments are provided, to give the Muslim community an opportunity to mingle and discuss any questions they may have. Lectures are chosen with the intent to convey the teachings of the Quran (The verbatim word of God) and Sunnah (The teachings and example of prophet Muhammad (P)).

TXT Athan

This is a service where a text message is sent to the recipients mobile to remind them of prayer at the respective times. The message also reminds the recipient of prayer being conducted in the masjids around Wellington. This service is available free of charge.

Qibla Direction

NZDA offers services to support the local community in accurately locating the direction of Qibla. NZDA utilises the latest satellite technology to provide theses services to vastly minimise margin of error.

Youth Masjid Sleep-Overs

This is a quarterly event to bring the Wellington youth together in the central masjid and remind them of their responsibilities in an easy-going and friendly environment. Three main areas of youth responsibility are highlighted in these sleep-overs. Their responsibility towards their themselves, their families and their community. All this relies on a relationship with and responsibility towards their Creator.

Weekly Quran Tafsir Classes

A Passage of the Quran (a chapter or part of a chapter) is recited then translation and commentaries are read. The teachings of the Quran are then discussed in relevance to today's current events. Lessons are given from the chosen passage of the Quran which provides clear and perfect guiadance on how we should live our dayly lives.

Hosting of National & International Speakers

It is important for the local community (both Muslim and non-Muslim) to stay in touch with the wider Muslim community (Ummah), to keep up to date with current affairs within the Ummah and to have knowledge from other communities shared with us. NZDA invites and facilitates for knowledgeable Muslim scholars and teachers to help provide Islamic solutions to our communities challenges.

Ramadhan Iftaar Program

NZDA provides a program of Iftaar dinners in the local masjids during the month of Ramadhan. The youth help in providing excellent meals for the local community to break their fast and enjoy a gathering in this blessed month. This provides an opportunity for the youth to interact with and offer something meaningful to the community.

Public Relations

NZDA acknowledges the importance of having an Islamic voice in the local community. Therefore where possible NZDA organises for knowledgeable and capable Muslim scholars and teachers to represent the local Muslim community at gatherings & events.

Pamphlet Distribution

NZDA realises that NZ public lacks knowledge about Islam and many misconceptions about Islam are common within the community. One medium NZDA uses to share correct and clear information about Islam is postal pamphlets.

Islamic Youth Camps

The Muslim Youth camp provides an opportunity for the younger members of the NZ Muslim community to come together. These NZDA camps are held on an annual basis. The camps involved both learning and recreational activities. The general aim of the camps is to help the Muslim youth understand that Islam is a living system that ensures success, prosperity and balance. Emphasis is put on having a relationship with God that governs behaviour and character.

Islamic Multimedia Library

NZDA maintains a library of useful multimedia material, including digital audio and video lectures, books, tutorials and DVDs.
